Stay Positive, Achieve More, Balance Work and
Life and Become A Person of Value
"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will die. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle; when the sun comes up, you’d better be running."
-source unknown
More of these thought provoking points are highlighted in Run: Whether You Are a Lion or a Gazelle book (to be released on April 15th)
Nothing kills determination, creativity and self-worth faster and more effectively than the availability of unlimited resources. There is absolutely no desire or reason to develop one’s skills and talents. There is no sense of accomplishment. No thrill come from whatever one does without goals to achieve or obstacles to overcome. Soon morale declines and attitudes heads south.
For both the gazelle and the lion, yesterday’s successes do not guarantee today’s survival. What if the remaining gazelles moved or were eaten by other carnivores? The lion would starve if it couldn’t find an alternative. For the gazelle, the lion might be more determined or aggressive than on the previous day. What got you or your organization to where you are today is not necessarily going to keep you there. Things change and unless you change, you will be changed.

You get the point. We are living in a time when you or your organization cannot take anything for granted. We now expect people to have several career changes in their working years. We expect competition to continue becoming more global and the world to continue becoming a small village.
To thrive, not just survive in our new jungle, you must learn that lack of resources is not an excuse for having no dream or not doing something to live a life of achievement and fulfillment. You cannot afford to ignore change, based on real or perceived fear, or to use absurd excuses to avoid doing the right thing at the right moment. You must learn to make ordinary actions bring extraordinary results.
You have to think as the owner of everything that affects your life and act to make it better. That includes the organization you work for, the community you live in and the world your community is part of. Again, you must be the CEO of your life!
To keep your organization running toward higher goals, you are required to know and value its mission, identify opportunities that can make it grow, become innovative with the available resources, be able to verify anything you do and remember, at the core of every decision you make and everything you do, people’s lives are affected. You must initiate change and/or be ready to change to always keep what you do in pace with a changing world.
As you navigate through our ever-changing workplace, family relationships are a critical factor that plays a major part in how you will determine your success. Your family relationships affect your spiritual, mental and physical well-being. No achievement in life matters if your relationships with your loved ones suffer because of your professional “successes.” Balancing work and life should not just be a slogan, but a way of life for you.
Remember you will retire from your job, but you can never retire from being your children’s mother or father. You can never retire from being special to someone — your presence and active love of those you care about make you a special someone.

"If I went back to college again, I’d concentrate on two areas: learning to write and to speak before an audience. Nothing in life is more important than the ability to communicate effectively." -Gerald R. Ford, U.S. President

Dr. Kituku’s new book is guaranteed to inspire, challenge and provide you with the tools you need to use immediately to thrive, not just survive, in our unpredictable workplaces, balance work and life and overcome setbacks. Complacency has relegated millions of talented people to being mediocre performers in their professional and personal lives. They continue to compare themselves with underachievers or assume yesterday’s successes guarantee them today’s or tomorrow’s success. Dr. Vincent Muli Wa Kituku (author of Overcoming Buffaloes at Work & in Life) says that is the same as a gazelle that outruns a lion today thinking that there is no more running tomorrow. Or a lion that easily caught a gazelle yesterday assuming that it will do the same today and tomorrow. It rarely happens!
The skills, experiences or material resources that got you where you are today may not necessarily be assets you need to survive and thrive tomorrow.
Have you ever asked yourself the following questions:
- What if a fast running gazelle ran faster than a slow gazelle each day?
- What would happen to the gazelle if there were no lions?
- What if the lion didn't have to run for a meal because gazelles are slow runners?
- What does the lion do when the only available meal is an African buffalo, an animal that has the ability to fight back, and probably win?
In other words, what happens to you if:
- You only compete with underachievers?
- You lack skills of managing perpetual workplace changes?
- You have zero external forces that inspire and challenge you to utilize your full potential for personal and professional growth?
- You have challenges that require more than your current abilities can handle?
- You have all the resources you need for all of your endeavors?
"Run: Whether You Are a Lion or a Gazelle" is the book to help you achieve more than expectations, become a person of value, thrive in chaos and balance work and life. You will be inspired to:
- Never let your dreams suffer due to lack of resources
- Discover and use your personal strengths
- Develop marketable skills for an unpredictable world
- Never "walk" after you learn to "fly"
- Find meaning in your life's dark moments
- Experience a life of no regrets
In
