Exceptional

"The deepest craving in human nature is the craving to be appreciated." -William James

Mainstream Electric"How can we make you smile?" That is the sentence you hear anytime you call Mainstream Electric, Inc. of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. A confession is in order right away - Initially, I thought the heartwarming response was from a receptionist who was having a happy moment. A few hours later, I called and the phone was answered by another individual yet the response was the same.

Before writing this column, I called their phone number and the receptionist made my day - I once again heard, "How can we make you smile?"

That is the message ALL people, current clients, potential customers, relatives and strangers, even people like myself who live in southwest Idaho and who have never been to their premises or used their services, hear. You and I have to admit that such an uplifting reception makes us stop and think about what we have just heard. Then we SMILE!

There are a variety of feelings when we receive a welcome that stands out. This is not the traditional, "Can I help you?" you hear from employees who are so disconnected from your presence that it makes you think you are bothering them. When you receive a positive welcome, you subconsciously anticipate great service. If you had called irritated and ready to complain, that greeting would calm you down.

I continue to be amazed by the depth of appreciation people have when they feel welcome and valued.

In my childhood, I used to be admitted at a local hospital from time to time suffering from either chronic malaria or stomachaches. When a relative came to visit me and he or she stood next to the bed where I was laying, I perceived that they were in a hurry, even if they stayed and visited a long time. I thought that being there was not their first priority.

Contrast that with relatives who would come and sit on the bed and visit with me. Even if they were there for only five minutes, I felt they valued me and being with me was important to them. To this day, my throat still chokes up when I recall my mother and grandmother sitting on my hospital bed.

Maybe you can relate to this with your experience when you are visiting someone in his or her office and they are so distracted, texting, reading memos, checking emails or constantly looking at their watch. You leave feeling unappreciated and underserved.

Making people feel and know they are valued requires top-notch discipline. What is happening to you or your organization should not be a reason to compromise how you value people. For Mainstream Electric, valuing people is one of their core values. Each employee is trained on how to appreciate people regardless of whether they are paying clients or not. Core values should not change as circumstances change.

Do you and your customer service providers make your clients and potential ones smile?

Before you invest $495, if you miss the deadline, for this groundbreaking seminar, you need proof on how past participants and other individuals who have been coached by Dr. Kituku privately have succeeded thereafter.

Here is a sample, but bear in mind that Dr. Kituku has trained more established and aspiring speakers in Northwest America and in Kenya, Africa, than any other expert. He also coached aspiring speakers in Canada, Botswana, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, Uganda, India and Saudi Arabia among other countries.

Kathy McIntosh, speaker, editor and author Vincent introduced and worked with Kathy on the idea of writing a regular column. Now she is a columnist for the Idaho Statesman, Idaho's largest newspaper. Kathy has received more referrals that turned to paying clients from Dr. Kituku than anyone else. She has appeared on TV and radio programs. Kathy has been a featured speaker for associations, business organizations and at Dr. Kituku's major events.

Kathy's own words: "Many speakers offer training on how to be paid for your speaking. I don't believe any of them will have the same continuing faith in your ability and the persistent support that Dr. Vincent Kituku offers. His advice is practical, innovative and supportive. He will get you where you want to be. He encouraged me to submit ideas for a column in our local paper and I've received several speaking assignments as a result."

Ian Johnson, Ex-NFL player and former star Running Back for the Boise State Univ. football team Vincent introduced and mentored Ian on the business of professional speaking. Within 12 months, Ian had given more paid presentations than most speakers have in their 3rd year of business. Ian has appeared in numerous TV, Radio and print media organized and promoted by Kituku & Associates.

Darnisha Victorain As a high school student and participant at the Boys and Girls Club public speaking contest, Darnisha was coached by Dr. Kituku and went on to win (received $10K and became the spokesperson for the association) the title of Pacific Region Youth of the Year before going on to the national competition and had the honor of meeting the president of the United States America.

You learn to tell your story and to present your message with an impact audiences will remember for a long time. Then Dr. Kituku's pours his heart out by revealing insights that get you in major media outlets, thus generating speaking opportunities, without you spending a penny! And he works with you to get you the publicity you diverse. Your success, Vincent says, "Is the greatest pay I can ever receive."

Only a small group of participants, a maximum of 21, is allowed in this life changing (professional, personal and financial) seminar. Act NOW!

Again, ALL participants in this group are carefully selected for maximum learning experience and with great expectation for future successes!

Outsourcing

In my article entitled "Overcoming the 'Social Buffaloes' in the Changing Workplace" that was printed in the Idaho Statesman in the mid 90s, I wrote, "In today's job market, you will soon compete for the same job opening in your home town with folks who live in foreign soils". "Soon" at that time meant twenty years or so.

The theme of the column was how to deal with unpredictable workplace changes. Today, just a few years later, the swiftness of workplace changes is astonishing - to say the least. It's mind boggling that the above statement is now a reality we have to live with.

How is this so? I live in Eagle, Idaho and the nearest Wal-Mart Superstore is about 5 minutes from my house. That proximity became advantageous the day after Thanksgiving. Wal-Mart had Hewlett-Packard (HP) computers with XP-Windows system on sale. I purchased the machine at 5:15 am.

Later in the day, I tried to set the computer up with no success. I called HP's customer service. The representative was knowledgeable, courteous and patient. During the time she was instructing me on how boot the machine, I asked, out of curiosity, "Where are you speaking from?" INDIA!

When we couldn't figure out the problem with my computer, she offered to have a CD with the right operations mailed to me. It was then I told her the distance from my home to Wal-Mart and also to HP's site in Boise, about seven minutes driving time. Within 30 minutes, I was setting up another computer and it worked.

Whether our competition is from outsourcing or something else, we are living at a time when we must re-evaluate our skills, knowledge and abilities. This should be done with a foresight of what we might need to survive and thrive in the unknown future.

This brings to mind five things to do to prepare for the unknown:

1. Whatever you do, own it. Be accountable, that's your organization. Yes, another entity may provide you a workplace, projects to work on and pay you for it. However, the main reason you are at that workplace, doing the work you are doing is primarily to cater for your own needs and wants. You work to sustain yourself and those you love and care about. Do whatever you can for your work to bring the best results.

2. Learn from goats. Goats can browse or eat grass while cows specialize on grass. When there is a drought goats are still nibbling around when cows are long dead. Develop more than the skills you are currently using. The secret is to grow in order to stay. You go if you don't grow.

3. Forget the original job responsibilities stipulated in the posting of the job you were hired to do. Things change. Change before you are changed. Do what needs to be done for projects at your workplace to be completed on time without compromising quality.

4. Develop symbiotic relationships (two organisms benefit from each other's presence) with those you work with. For example rhinos are normally infected with ticks and their sight is not great either. Some birds feed on the rhino's ticks. When the birds notice any animal that might attack their host, they jump up and down, thus alerting the rhino. How can others benefit from your capabilities? In what ways can teammates enrich your life?

5. Involve yourself in community projects that you believe in and care about. You will derive fulfillment money can't provide, and grow personally and professionally. And who knows? You might be building a network system that could provide you with a cushion should your job go offshore.

Read What Others Are Saying About Dr. Kituku's Programs:

"WOW! What a great presentation ...As I reach the end of this program, there is so much information to digest. Thanks for the written material. I am so excited to read it and put what I have learned into practice. Thanks so much!"
Alan Sturtevant, Owner, International Minute Press

"Thanks again for your outstanding work with our team over the last two days. Your presentations on leadership and team building were exactly what we needed and right on the mark. Even though you never played football, your understanding of how a team must function as one to be successful is amazingly accurate...The way the workbook flows and the way that each group is interactive within the presentation allows for much better retention of this vital material...Keep up the great work and we look forward to having you back with us again soon."
Dirk Koetter, Head Football Coach, Arizona State University

"Your insights were invaluable and your sense of humor amazing..."
Geri Rackow, Deputy Director & Public Information Officer, Eastern Idaho Public Health District

"You gave us all much to think about and your impact has become a part of the way we look at ourselves and our program."
Colleen Van Winkle, SHIBA Regional Coordinator

"I personally met Kituku last year when he visited Kenya. When I learnt of his ability to motivate..., I persuaded my head teacher and we sacrificed a morning session to listen to him. Since then the students have never been the same...that was the turning point for both students and teachers who heard him. They were left bewildered that someone can pass such serious message in such simplicity..."
Joshua Kivuva, English teacher, Kinyui Girls High School, Kenya

"I will never forget the seminar I attended here in Moscow that you were the speaker. Thank you for being you and sharing." Jan Ahles, Community Relations Director at Good Samaritan Society, Moscow "Everyone thoroughly enjoyed your presentation. It was a hoot!...I certainly appreciate the time and effort you put into preparing for this event! The added touch of customizing your presentation to fit credit unions and our theme of "Trek to Success," topped it off..."
Marian Kenworthy, Education Specialist, Idaho Credit Union League

"I enjoyed your seminar this morning at the Chamber of Commerce. I've already told several people that was one of the best seminars they've had. I've heard some of your marketing tips before from other speakers but you have a special talent for making it much easier to understand. I've heard about the elevator speech before, but the speaker took much longer and was more complex at explaining it. After the few minutes you spoke on it, I understood it much better and was able to come up with my own, "I help small businesses market their business on the Internet."
Duane Hinkley, Down Home Web Design, Inc.

"...Your buoyant, encouraging message certainly demonstrates to everyone involved how to not only survive, but thrive in the turbulence of unexpected life changes...Your message crossed all boundaries; from the coach to the athlete, continuing on to the entrepreneur and business manager all the way to the company employee. It does not matter your "position" in life as your message conveyed and answered loud and clear..."
Gary Beck, Executive Director; Humanitarian Bowl

"Dear Dr. Kituku,
Just a note to let you know how much we enjoyed your energetic and motivational keynote address at the opening ceremonies of the Pacific Northwest Section of the American Water Works Association's annual spring conference...we heard many remarks throughout the conference praising the opening ceremonies as one of the best that the participants had experienced..."
Gregory P. Wyatt, Conference Co-chair, Pacific Northwest Section of the American Water Works Association
